ChildFund Japan is an international cooperation non-governmental organization (NGO), focusing on the rights and welfare of children in Asia. Originally named Christian Child Welfare Association (CCWA), ChildFund Japan traces its roots back to 1952, when it was established as a recipient body for Christian Children’s Fund(USA) sponsorship funds in support of Japanese orphans following World War II.

After the termination of assistance in 1974, CCWA set up the department of international sponsorship to address the situation faced by children in the Philippines and other parts of Asia. During its 30 years of service, the department expanded its scope of assistance and extended support throughout Asia. In March 2005, the department became independent of CCWA and was registered as ChildFund Japan.

With the help of individual sponsors who are assigned to a specific sponsored child in the Philippines, and in Sri Lanka. ChildFund Japan supports the development of the children, families and communities in the urban slums and rural areas. As of March 2008, ChildFund Japan is sponsoring 4,818 children in Philippines and Sri Lanka.

Sponsorship Program include: Education, Basic Needs, Vocational Training, Income Generation and Value Formation. Each program provides long-term assistance with the goal of securing the community’s self-sustainability.

Voluntary donations from sponsors and other individuals for the overseas assistance allows ChildFund Japan to extend this program. While SP provides long- term assistance for the children, families and communities, SP provides 2-3 years assistance for urgent needs of the people and communities.
Assistance for the relief and rehabilitation operations for victims of natural calamities like typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc., is also provided in this program. ChildFund Japan has supported 2program in Nepal and in the Philippines.
